My son loves Halloween. He gets almost as excited about Halloween as he does Christmas. A lot of people would assume he loves it because of all the sweets kids can get while out trick or treating but for him, it’s being able to dress up as scary as possible. He also loves to visit a PYO field, picking a pumpkin and carving it. Plus he really enjoys decorating the house. But most of all he loves to attend a fun event for Halloween.
There are always a great number of excellent events to choose from for Halloween and the October half-term in England. We have rounded up some of the biggest events across different counties so that you can find a Halloween event near you. Each post includes a short description of each event so that you can find one that will suit what your child likes.
Not all events are family-friendly as some are true scare events aimed at older teenagers and adults. We have avoided including these truly scary events in our posts.
In the North West, there are events happening in Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. English Heritage run some bewitching days out including at Beeston Castle. If a night event with the kids is your thing Bewilderwood runs a lantern parade every year. There are some great places to go pumpkin picking including Walby Farm Park.
Up in the North East across County Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear there are a few family-friendly events happening for Halloween. You can go on a Halloween-themed trail at Raby Castle or explore the ghoulish garden at Alnwick Garden.
Yorkshire doesn’t disappoint with almost 50 events to choose from across the North, South, East and West. Mother Shipton’s Cave is a great venue for spooky fun with an annual Halloween-themed experience. Yorkshire Wildlife Park is another of our favourites where you will embark on a spine-tingling adventure for all the family to enjoy.
The West Midlands has one of our longest lists with over 30 events across Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Birmingham/West Midlands. Warwick Castle hosts one of the biggest events in this area with a spooky maze and scare schools plus other eerie entertainment all included in the price of your day ticket.
One of our favourite areas of England for Halloween-themed events is the East Midlands. There are a number of events across Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. White Post Farm is one of the best with a pumpkin for every child, creepy meet and greets, a spooky spider maze and more. Twin Lakes in Leicestershire has one of the biggest spooktacular events with a huge pumpkin display and you can meet their resident witch in her wagon and learn to cast a spell.
Moving a bit further east now to East Anglia where there are some great events in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire and Norfolk. There are over 30 events with Dippy’s Halloween days at Roarr! and Audley End Miniature railway has its very own witches’ house.
Down in the southwest you can enjoy some great Halloween events and we have found something to do in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Bristol and Wiltshire. Wookey Hole is a great setting for a Halloween event with around 800 pumpkins, interactive wand lessons, a circus Halloween show, spooky mini-golf and more.
We move across England now to the southeast where there are family-friendly Halloween events in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, London, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Oxfordshire and Surrey. This is our biggest list with almost 50 events. Highlights include Paultons Park Halloween Spectacular with a spooky Halloween makeover, a fun show and more. LEGOLAND in Windsor sees LEGO Monsters taking over and throwing a Monster Party to celebrate their favourite time of year.
