Pinewood Park Glamping North Yorkshire Review

Last summer I booked a glamping holiday for my son and I at Pinewood Park near Scarborough. I like to take him away just the two of us every year and this is what I chose for that year’s adventures. It’s a relatively small site with a range of glamping options plus a field for campers and tourers. The site has a cowboy and Indian theme.

I don’t know what it is with me but even when I prebook in the summer we always have rotten weather. It’s becoming a bit of a given that we will have rain, clouds and cold temperatures. This glamping holiday was sadly no exception but we still had fun. It was just a shame all the kids were in their own accommodation as it was clearly a nice place for kids to make friends and hang out together.

The site is just a few mile’s drive from the centre of Scarborough. It’s a great base for exploring the local area. We went into Scarborough for dinner and also a day out and we were parked up in the centre in no time.

When you arrive you check in at a cabin and there is a little shop that sells gifts and a few other bits and bobs. They have a few accommodation options. For families, there are glamping lodges with wood-fired hot tubs, Wagons and there is a family electric hot tub lodge, for two adults and 4 children under 13.

Plus they have Tipis with a wood-fired hot tub that has one room but can sleep a family of four. Camping shacks, Tipi tents and a Tree Cabin with 2 rooms for 2 adults and 2 children under 13. They also have Woodcutters retreat cabins and Glamping huts. Most of their accommodation sleeps 2 adults and 2 children (some of the accommodation requires your children to be under the age of 13).

All their accommodation has a way of heating them should it be needed. Kids under 16 also go free. (2 per unit).

I had booked us a Ranch Retreat with a Hot Tub. This was big as it had a double bed in the main living area and then two separate bedrooms each with a single bed. I did try sleeping on the double bed but it was so creaky I moved to one of the singles.

You have to bring your own bedding so we brought sleeping bags and pillows as it’s easier than duvets. There was a 2 seater seat plus a table with stools under for meals. There was a picnic bench outside but it was a bit broken which was a shame.

There wasn’t a wardrobe but there was somewhere you could hang clothes and there were plenty of shelves for putting things on. You can upgrade for a small fee to include electricity.

We like having some lights so we upgraded. Plus in the weather we had gadgets were absolutely needed. There was also a fridge, toaster, kettle and a microwave. You have to bring your own bowls, plates, cutlery etc.

The lodge itself was lovely but the outside space was disappointing. We did have a wood-fired hot tub though which we did use. It was billed as private but the neighbours kept peering over their fence to talk to us.

We were supplied with enough wood to heat the hot tub up twice which was nice as some places we’ve stayed at have asked you to purchase the wood. It did take us a lot longer than the advised time to heat up the water but we had plenty of time and we enjoyed the challenge.

I’m sure you can see by the photos that they have gone to some effort with the theming. I know my son enjoyed his stay there. It was just a shame about the weather.

Although we were staying in one of the most expensive lodges on the site we still didn’t have a private bathroom. I think for a site like this that asks around £300-500 in peak season for 3 nights they really need a better toilet/shower/wash block.

It was constantly dirty, especially the floor which was a shame. I was going to take some photos but I didn’t want to put anyone off from visiting as maybe we expected too much and we did have bad weather. It is a nice site and kids will love it. They even have some turtles!!!

There is on-site parking but it’s a short walk away from the glamping. Although this wasn’t a major issue as it’s nice not to have cars right next to where kids are it was a bit miserable in the rain.

The park has had two new fun glamping options added. You can now stay in one of 2 Sea King Helicopters. They are the only park in the UK to offer glamping in a SeaKing rescue helicopter, one was used in the Falkland Islands and the other was once flown by Prince William. Each helicopter has a double bed at the back and bunk beds suitable for under 13s. Plus a bench seat which is suitable for a 3rd child.
