All of these ideas are 100% indoors (or very very close to). I have not included anywhere that has equal elements of things to do indoors and outdoors. They are all perfect for a rainy, super windy or super cold day or any kind of day really. These are THE Indoor days out ideas for families across the four counties of Yorkshire.
Indoor Days Out Ideas East Yorkshire – Miscellaneous
John Bull World Of Rock – Near Bridlington
John Bull Sweet Factory Tour is open during most school holidays. It is a self-guided tour around where they make their sweets, biscuits and chocolates. You can have a go at rolling your own stick of rock and there are samples to try on your way around.
Jump Around Inflatable Park – Hornsea
They are an indoor inflatable park with a free fall, a daring obstacle course and a mini area for their younger visitors.
Jump Inc – Beverley
Jump Inc. is home to a large inflatable bounce arena. There are slides into a huge ball pit, a 2 lane assault course, you can try knocking your opponent over or bounce on their bubbles. There is a smaller area for the under-4s.
TeamSport Karting – Hull
This is an indoor go-karting arena. It is a multi-level 400-metre circuit with hair-raising bends, spine-tingling turns and challenging ramps. The minimum age for driving is 8 years old.
The Deep – Hull
The Deep is one of the UK’s largest aquariums. There is a large coral reef tank, a massive endless ocean tank including a tunnel, an ice wall and Gentoo penguins. Plus many more displays.

Agility – York
There are two Ninja courses at Agility near York. One for 5-16-year-olds with a fun range of obstacles and a warped wall to try and run up. The second course is for 12 years plus and has a range of more challenging obstacles.
DIG! – York
DIG! runs sessions where you can learn all about how to become an archaeologist. Kids will learn how to carefully brush the sand away to reveal artefacts underneath. They also have to try and identify artefacts and there are some challenges to complete at the end.
Jorvik Viking Centre – York
Jorvik is a sit down slow ride through Viking York 1,000 years ago. You will experience different sites, sounds and smells along the way. It is incredibly realistic. The visit finishes with a look around the museum with many Viking artefacts on display that have been found in York.
North Yorkshire Moors Railway – Pickering to Whitby
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a relatively long heritage train line that runs steam and diesel trains from Pickering to York. There are a number of stops along the way including Goathland which was made famous in the first Harry Potter film.
Sea Life Centre – Scarborough
At Scarborough’s Sea Life Centre, you can see a number of different tanks. There are penguins you can get really close to, kids can learn how to rescue a turtle. Plus there are rock pools, seals, otters and more.
Stump Cross Caverns – Near Pateley Bridge
High on a hill in the Yorkshire Dales lies a series of underground caverns. These were first formed around 300 million years ago and today you can explore at your leisure and see spectacular stalagmites and stalactites. There are trails for the kids and a short film.
York Chocolate Story – York
This is a guided tour that details the history of chocolate making in York. You will learn about the full process of turning cocoa beans into the chocolate that we love to eat. There are samples along the way and you can make your own chocolate lolly at the end of the tour.
York Dungeons – York
The York Dungeons are more for the older visitors and they recommend the attraction for children age 10 and over. You will walk through 10 live actor shows that tell the story of 2,000 years of York’s dark history.
York Minster – York
York Minster was first completed in 1472 after several centuries of building. The interior of York Minster is nothing short of spectacular. There are lots of different areas of the minster to explore and look around including the Undercroft Museum, a crypt, wonderful stained glass windows and more.
York’s Motorsports Village – York
This is an indoor racing centre with battery karts for younger visitors and bigger petrol karts for older visitors. Children as young as 4 can have a go at racing. Their circuit is built on two levels with straights, swooping corners, tight hairpins and more.

Air Haus – Meadowhall, Sheffield
Air Haus is an interactive inflatable theme park. There is a fun range of things to play on including drop slides, a wipeout zone and a dual ninja run. Plus there is an obstacle course and a reaction dome.
Avago Karting – Mexborough
Kids from 8 years old can try out Junior karting at this indoor go-karting venue. There are bigger karts for older kids and adults. The track has multi-levels and there is a range of straights, bends and more.
Jump Inc – Rotherham
This venue is home to an inflatable theme park located in over 30,000 square feet of space. There is a great range of challenges including an obstacle course, huge slides, giant wipe-out balls, tunnels and more. There is a dedicated toddler area plus a ball pool, basher forest and free fall area.
Laser Quest – Sheffield
Laser Quest in Valley Centertainment is located on the outskirts of the centre of Sheffield. It is for ages 7 and over and you can enjoy laser tag in a safe environment. The games are played in a purpose-built multi-level arena with a glow-in-the-dark maze that makes it hard to find and follow other players.
Lock n Load Play Arena – Rotherham
Lock N Load near Rotherham features indoor laser combat play in a themed arena. There are tunnels and mines and you can take on different missions. There is the option to turn up and play with others or book in groups and play as a team.
TeamSport Indoor Karting – Sheffield
TeamSport Karting is a state-of-the-art indoor karting venue close to Meadowhall. There are three tracks across four levels with bends, straights and fun ramps. Children from the age of 8 can take part.

Dare2air – Huddersfield
This is a huge indoor inflatable theme park where kids and adults can bounce together to their heart’s content. There are eight zones including drop slides, balance beams and an inflatable Wipeout zone.
Funzy Inflatable Theme Park – Bradford
Funzy is fun for all ages. Their indoor inflatable theme park is approx, 15,000 square feet in size. There is a giant open bounce arena with a surrounding inflatable obstacle course. There are several slides and a smaller play arena for the under-4s with multiple interactive features.
ImmotionVR – Castleford
Step into the future of entertainment at this leading VR experience venue. They have a range of immersive experiences that include competitive gameplay and unique cinematic VR experiences. Their experiences can be enjoyed from the age of 8.
Jump Inc – Leeds
Jump Inc. in the Holbeck area of Leeds is located in over 50,000 square feet of space. They have created a hybrid-mega park that combines trampolines and inflatables. There are huge slides, a jelly mountain, an obstacle course and tumble tracks. Plus interactive areas, wipe out and more.
LaserQuest – Leeds
Zero contact, mess-less, high-tech fun using infrared equipment. The game is played in a purpose-built multi-level arena. There is a huge glow-in-the-dark maze which makes it hard to follow players. There are plenty of corners to hide behind.
LaserZone – Bradford, Castleford, Huddersfield, Leeds
LaserZone is at four different venues across West Yorkshire. The lasers are state-of-the-art and the game is played in a large arena with special effect lighting, great music and theatre-grade smoke.
LS-Ten Skatepark – Leeds
LS-Ten is a Skatepark near the Royal Armouries. They are an indoor skatepark with a great range of bespoke and professional ramps in a huge 25,000-square-foot building. There is also a huge street section split into two parts, one for beginners and one for the more experienced riders.
Mags on Ramps – Halifax
This is an indoor skatepark split over two levels. They are in a building of approximately 14,000 square feet. The park has a foam pit.
Mini GP Racing – Halifax
Mini GP Racing is an approved academy for FAB, which is the grassroots for professional motorbike racing. They have mid-week after-school activity evenings where kids can go down for a fun-packed session on the Mini Quads, which includes full hire of the bike and all PPE. They have accredited academies that run for any person wanting to learn how to ride a quad or bike.
Ninja Warrior – Leeds
This venue is set in a large building with a purpose-built indoor obstacle course inspired by the famous ITV show, Ninja Warrior UK. Children can take part from the age of 4 and the course has challenges of varying difficulty including three warped walls. There is also a large inflatable course with lots to play on.
Snozone – Castleford Xscape
Located in Xscape in Castleford just off the M62 is the largest indoor real snow resort. You can have a go at skiing and snowboarding and they even provide lessons. They also have family sledging sessions.
TeamSport Indoor Karting – Bradford and Leeds
Indoor go-kart racing from the age of 8. The Leeds course is 580 metres in length and includes a flyover, tunnels, hairpins and straights. The Bradford course is also 580 metres and it is one of TeamSports newer multi-level tracks.
VR Immersion – Bradford
Step into the future of entertainment at this leading VR experience venue. They have a range of immersive experiences that include competitive gameplay and unique cinematic VR experiences. Their experiences can be enjoyed from the age of 8.
Museums East Yorkshire
Dinostar – Hull
Located just a short walk from The Deep is Hull’s interactive dinosaur museum. There are dinosaurs you can see, touch, hear and even smell. There is an interactive sandbox, bones you can touch and more.
Hornsea Museum – Hornsea
This museum was first established in 1978 and it houses an 18th-century farmhouse and two cottages. The rooms represent life in Victorian times and there is a bedroom, a dairy, a kitchen, a parlour and a washroom. Plus a Victorian schoolroom, a Victorian street scene, workshops and more.
Hull and East Riding Museum – Hull
Located in the museum quarter of Hull’s Old Town is this museum. It features an Iron Age village, a Roman Bathhouse and mosaics. Plus Viking treasures and wooden warriors.
Hull Maritime Museum – Hull
Please check back. This is currently closed for a major redevelopment.
Streetlife Museum – Hull
The Streetlife Museum is also located in the museum quarter of Hull’s Old Town. The museum takes you through 200 years of transport history with trains, trams, cars, carriages and more. There are 6 galleries to explore with a surprise upstairs.
Museums North Yorkshire
Eden Camp Modern History Museum – Near Malton
Eden Camp once housed prisoners of war, now it’s home to an excellent museum in many of the old buildings. There is plenty to see with some excellent exhibitions and lots of surprises. The past is brought to life with moving animations, smells, lights and sounds. There is a couple of outdoor playgrounds but the indoor sections are the star of the place.
National Railway Museum – York
This museum is located near York’s railway station and it is dedicated to rail travel. There is a great hall full of old train engines and carriages, some of which you can go inside. There is a workshop and you can watch trains arriving at York station. There is another hall with an interesting variety of coaches. There are miniature train rides outdoors. Plus a new fun lab for kids (charges apply)
Ripon Museum Trust – Ripon
The Ripon Museum Trust is home to three museums There is the Workhouse Museum and Garden, the Courthouse Museum and the Prison and Police Museum. The grim atmosphere of the Workhouse has been carefully maintained to give visitors a sense of what life was like for the Workhouse workers. There are hands-on activities in the prison with lots to see throughout.
Scarborough Fair Collection – Near Scarborough
This is such a unique museum as it is full of vintage rides, fairground rides and transport from the past. There are vintage organs, a fun penny arcade and yes you can ride on many of their rides.
York Castle Museum – York
This museum has an excellent recreated Victorian street with plenty to see and people walking around in Victorian costumes. There are other exhibition areas covering the 1960s, WWII, toys and more. You can also go down into the old prison cells and hear stories of those once imprisoned there.
Yorkshire Air Museum – Near York
The Yorkshire Air Museum is located on the site of the former RAF Elvington airfield. Their exhibitions are dotted around in their old buildings including many aircraft in their large hangar. You can even go in a couple of their cockpits. They also have a range of historical vehicles including fire engines.
Yorkshire Museum – York
Closed until the Spring for renovation work. There are plenty of interactive exhibits including an excellent Jurassic World exhibition where you can dig for fossils and bring fossils back to life on tablets. You can take your shoes off and walk on a real Roman mosaic floor and there are many treasures from ancient Rome.
Museums South Yorkshire
Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet – Sheffield
This is a group of Grade 1 and Grade II listed buildings and a scheduled ancient momument. You can see the Manager’s house of what was once an 18th-century industrial works. Plus a worker’s cottage, waterwheels, workshops, a steam engine and the last complete surviving crucible steel furnace in the UK.
DANUM Museum and Art Gallery – Doncaster
The cafe to this museum has been built around the frontage of the historic Doncaster High School for Girls. It is now home to a library and art gallery plus a museum with interactive exhibits.
Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Centre – Barnsley
This museum is devoted to the heritage and culture of the region with hands-on exhibits and films. Over 90% of the museum’s artefacts have been contributed by people living and working in the borough. Their unique and interactive exhibits encourage visitors to explore the people and places of Barnsley.
Kelham Island Museum – Sheffield
Kelham Island Museum details the history of steelmaking with interactive galleries and on-site craftsmen. It also has the UK’s largest only working steam engine which operates twice a day. There is a play area for children up to the age of 9. There is also a street scene and a 1916 house. workshops, transport galleries and more.
Magna Science Adventure – Rotherham
Magna is set within a massive building where steel was once made. There are a number of interactive exhibitions looking at fire, water, air and more. There are over 100 exhibits and most are interactive. Outdoors there is a huge play area.
National Emergency Services Museum – Sheffield
There are over 40 vehicles on display across three floors all within a stunning historic building. This was once a combined police and fire station. Make sure you book a ride in one of their fire engines (weekends only).
National Videogame Museum – Sheffield
Dedicated to, yes you’ve guessed it, video games is this unique museum. Inside you can explore how games are made, who makes them and even why they make them, You can play them and even make them.
Weston Park Museum – Sheffield
Weston Park Museum is Sheffield’s largest museum and it is housed in a Grade II* listed building. It was first opened in 1875 and there are many archaeology exhibits across seven galleries. The exhibits are related to natural science, social history, coins, medals and world cultures.
Museums West Yorkshire
Abbey House Museum – Leeds
This museum is home to authentically recreated streets, objects and stories. There is a pub, houses and shops. There are childhood galleries with toys and if you purchase some old penny farthings you can play on their original penny slot machines.
Bankfield Museum – Halifax
The museum was first opened in 1887 and it tells the story of Halifax and Calderdale through it’s rich and diverse collections. They cover local history, costumes, art, toys, military history and more.
Bradford Industrial Museum – Bradford
Located in Moorside Mills is Bradford’s Industrial Museum. There are displays of textile machinery, steam power, printing machinery, motor vehicles and more. You can see the splendour of Moorside House where the mill manager lived and also the terraced houses dressed to reflect three different time periods. Machines run at certain times, please check ahead.
Calderdale Industrial Museum – Halifax
The museum is run by volunteers and it houses a collection that represents the wide variety of industries that were in the area. The museum is across three floors and you can see and experience coal mining, the story of power and more.
Colne Valley Museum – Golcar, Huddersfield
Step through the door of their traditional weavers’ cottages and you will be transported back into the early 1850s. You can wander through a period living room, a wash kitchen and more.
Eureka! The National Children’s Museum – Halifax
There are over 400 interactive exhibits designed for children to be able to interact with. There is a pretend town square with a bank, a working cash machine (not real cash), a post office, a supermarket, a car garage and more. Kids can find out how their bodies work and it’s a great place for kids to learn without realising that they are learning.
Leeds City Museum – Leeds
Located in Leeds city centre there is lots to see and discover. You can get close to amazing animals, uncover buried archaeological treasures and discover the history of Leeds. There are two changing exhibitions every year and family-friendly events.
Leeds Industrial Museum – Armley, Leeds
Located at Armley Mills is a museum that covers our industrial heritage. There are textile machines, railway equipment and changing exhibitions. They also have one of the smallest cinemas in the world.
Maths City – Leeds
Maths City is located in the heart of the city centre of Leeds. There are all manner of fun and interactive things to do. You can climb inside a giant bubble or a kaleidoscope. Try out their laser Ring of Fire, discover fascinating puzzles and more.
National Coal Mining Museum – Near Wakefield
This museum is located on the site of the former coal mining pit, Caphouse Colliery. The museum is housed in various buildings that were once part of the working colliery. There are lots to see and you can even book on an underground tour of the pit, this is always the highlight of our visit. The underground tour is recommended for children ages 5 and over.
National Science and Media Museum – Bradford
Located in the heart of Bradford is this museum that is great for families. There are permanent and temporary exhibitions. Their newest permanent exhibition Wonderlab has 20 different interactive and intriguing exhibitions. There is a games room where you can play vintage games and you can also learn about the history of photography. They also have an IMAX cinema.
Royal Armouries – Leeds
The Royal Armouries is located by the water in Leeds city centre. It houses the UK’s national collection of arms and armour. There are five floors with over 4,500 objects from the 15th century to the modern day. They hold many interesting annual events.
Thackray Museum of Medicine – Leeds
Located in the Harehills area of Leeds is this museum dedicated to the history of medicine. There is an excellent walkthrough reproduction of slum streets from Victorian times. You can learn about operations in the 19th century, there is a 1970s sexual health clinic and some interactive displays.
Wakefield Museum – Wakefield
This museum covers the history of the city of Wakefield and the local area from prehistoric times and onwards. There are permanent and touring exhibitions. There are over 110,000 objects on display.

Lost City Adventure Golf – Hull – East Yorkshire
Located in St Stephens shopping centre in Hull is this themed crazy golf venue. They have two 18-hole courses with some great features. The two courses are Cobra Canyon and Skull River.
Putt Club Crazy – Hull – East Yorkshire
This is an epic 9-hole motorsport-themed indoor crazy golf course. The arena takes putting to the next level. Can you beat the Dirty Birdie or putt through the hole of mirrors? They are located on the same site as Hull’s TeamSport karting.
Hole In Wand – York – North Yorkshire
This is a relatively new Wizard-themed attraction located on Coppergate, opposite Jorvik, in the heart of York. It’s a small but fun indoor course and you win a drink at the end. There are 9 holes with bubbling cauldrons, magic portals and a giant picture frame where you become part of the painting.
Puttstars – Leeds, West Yorkshire and York, North Yorkshire
These two venues feature the same three indoor 9-hole crazy golf courses. You are given points according to the number of shots you take. A hole-in-one scores you 1,000 points, in two 800 etc. You also have 2 jokers you can play that can double your score. The three courses are Slingshot, Pinball and Zig Zag.
Paradise Island Adventure Golf – Sheffield – South Yorkshire
Located in the popular Valley Centertainment leisure area are these two indoor 18-hole golf courses. Their courses are spread out over 14,000 square feet and two floors and both have an exotic theme.
Galactic Golf – Halifax – West Yorkshire
There are two 18-hole space-themed adventure golf courses. Plus a pool table and amusements. They also have a large interactive gaming wall.
Volcano Falls – Castleford – West Yorkshire
Located inside the large leisure venue of Xscape is Volcano Falls. They have two 18-hole courses, a T-Rex course and a Volcano Valley course. They advertise themselves as adventure mini-golf not crazy golf.

Gravity – Hull
Located in the St Stephen’s Shopping centre in the centre of Hull. They offer a number of jump sessions. There is a great selection of trampolines, battle beams, dodgeball court, an airbag, basketball and more.
Rebound Trampoline Park – Hull
They have over 60 interconnected trampolines and most of their sessions have festival-style lighting and music. There is also a dodge-ball court, airbag, tumble tracks and a Ninja assault course.
North Yorkshire
AirTime Trampoline Park – Skelton
They are an indoor trampoline park located in Skelton. As well as a number of interconnected trampolines they also have 3D-Dodgeball and a slam dunk area.
Point Zero Trampoline Park – York
They offer a number of sessions including toddler experience, friendly sessions, regular jump sessions and more. There are over 90 inter-connected trampolines and you be inspired to jump along to their great music. There are foam pits, dodgeball and more.
South Yorkshire
Bounce Sheffield – Sheffield
There are a number of bounce sessions on offer. They provide a fun, safe and inclusive environment for families to have fun. During their toddler sessions they add an inflatable area.
Flip Out – Doncaster
There is a large main arena with trampolines, a foam pit and a traversing wall. There is also a stunt box zone, Ninja tag, soft play, battle beams and more.
Jump Inc – Sheffield
Jump Inc in Sheffield is set in 24,000 square feet of indoor space. It is one of the largest dedicated trampoline parks in the UK with around 120 trampolines. They also have some giant airbags, jump towers, a wipeout zone and a fun Ninja course.

Go Bounce Extreme is located on the Shaw Lane Industrial Estate. They have over 50 interconnected trampolines including angled flatbeds. There is a tumble track, a challenge zone, basketball and dodgeball.
SOAR Trampoline Park – Barnsley
Their main arena has an array of interconnecting trampolines and angled walls. There is also an airbag, reaction walls, dodgeball and a battle beam. Plus a Wipeout where you will need to duck under and leap over spinning arms.

Their main trampoline court has 69 interconnected trampoline beds and 5 combination tracks. There is also a freestyle area with 28 trampolines. This venue also has slam dunk basketball tracks, dodgeball courts and an airbag. There is also the Lost City Soft Play plus VR gaming.
Gravity Active Entertainment – Castleford
Located in the popular venue of Xscape off the M62 there is this family-friendly venue. There are trampolines, a dodgeball court, battle beams, an airbag, basketball and more. They also have climbing walls and a Skyrider aerial adventure that will whisk you around with a wire on your back 70 feet above the ground.
Insane Air – Bradford
There are a number of activities at Insane Air. There are bouldering walls, dodgeball and an airbag. Plus a jump tower, a wipeout machine and a Ninja warrior course. Not forgetting their trampolines and specialist performance trampolines.

They have a spacious and open trampoline park made up of 52 trampolines. There is an adjacent seating area and they have a variety of sessions including ones for children under 10.
